A narrative of a soldier of the First Virginia Infantry, Kemper's Brigade, Pickett's Division, First Corps Army of Northern Virginia. The journal begins immediately after the Battle of Cedar Mountain and closes with the charge at Gettysburg. Dooley tells from the viewpoint of a private and later of a company officer which covers eleven red months of offensive operation between the Rappahannock and the Susquehanna. Bound in blue cloth, spine lettering gilt, endpapers are maps. A near fine copy in dust jacket with three chips and spots of soiling to front panel, old tape mends to underside of spine ends.
