Sobre este artículo

U S A: Rutgers University Press. Hardback. First Edition. Previous owners name sticker to inside cover. Wear and tear to edges of D/J. Price clipped to D/J. In the evolution of Nonformority in English Protestantism during the reign of Elizabeth I, one of thre fiercest attacks on the episcopal establishment was conducted by prebyterian-Puritans who associated themselved in the clandestine writing, printing, and distribution of a series of pamphlets which appeared under the name Martin Marprelate, or mar-bishop. By coincidence the mysterious literary genius who composed this seres was at work on his first tract at a moment when the English Throne and Church were also threatened by the invasion of Spanish Catholic forces from the Continent, Philip II's Armada. od the two, the clandestine Puritan activities were to prove far more menacing to Elizabeth and her successors. In this book the author reappraises the Marprelate Controversy and Penry's relationship to it in the light not only of the depositions made by persons suspected of complicity in the Martinist conspiracy but also of the relevant pamphlets written by nonconformists and the defenders of the Establishment during the last years of the sixteenth century. 274 pp. (We carry a wide selection of titles in The Arts, Theology, History, Politics, Social and Physical Sciences. academic and scholarly books and Modern First Editions, Reference books ,and all types of Academic Literature.) . Very Good. Hardcover. First Edition. 1966.
