New York: Curt Valentin, 1955. First U.S. edition using British plates. Includes articles by Piper and an introduction by S. John Woods, who also arranged the book. John Piper was a painter who also did theatre design, book illustrations, photography, criticism, etc. The book includes eleven illustrations in color and 244 in monochrome; 8 pages of reproductions in four-color line and tone; an aquatint, a monochrome lithograph, and three lithographs in color specially drawn for this book. Folio (10 x 12 1.2 inches) in dust jacket with minor wear on corners and spine ends.
