Spine sunned and scuffed with 3 short tears to lower joint (largest approx 1-inch at top edge). Sporadic light foxing mainly to early and late leaves; endpapers lightly toned. Pp 1 - 12 creased at extreme top margin with associated 1/2 inch closed tear to page 3. Scarce exploits of occult investigator Dr John Silence, from one of the early master's of the ghost story.
