Sobre este artículo
Athens, University of Georgia Press, 1985, first edition, dust jacket. Hardcover.. This is an extremely important study by a once-promising young native American scholar who, sadly, took his own life a few years ago, but who left the world of Steinbeck scholarship this landmark study and a number of other books, with this book Owens "examines how Steinbeck used this would-be Eden (California) to explore the moral bankruptcy of American society, to explore the corruption that lay beneath the beckoning surface of the American dream," this is a very scarce book that seldom comes on the market, this copy is an Association Copy of the highest order, being Inscribed to fellow Steinbeck scholar Robert DeMott, DeMott has been among the best of Steinbeck scholars for decades and is easily the most accessible writer who can explain and expound on Steinbeck in something other than English professor-speak, he was acting director of the Steinbeck Research Center at San Jose State University at the time of this book's publication, he helped launch "The Steinbeck Quarterly," a mostly scholarly publication dedicated to Steinbeck, he is also the author of a trilogy of books on Steinbeck beginning with his influential Steinbeck's Reading published in 1984, followed by Working Days which follows Steinbeck's own journal kept while writing The Grapes of Wrath, that was followed by Steinbeck's Typewriter, he also wrote the introduction to his friend Jim Harrison's bibliography, laid in loosely are two photo-copies of letters from Owens to DeMott regarding Steinbeck/writing matters, also laid in loosely is an off-print of DeMott's review of the Owens book that had been published in the "Journal of English and Germanic Philology". Some fading along jacket spine as is so common with this book, else fine.
