Boards and pages are clean, unmarked, bright, tightly bound and sharp cornered. Scarce, Out Of Print, Book. .

This book is unusual. It has the 1952 copyright and shows Random House, The Modern Library as the publisher. However, elements do not match what we have found elsewhere. The cover is deep red of leather or faux leather on boards. Whereas this edition is always green cloth on boards and has the series number ML 298. This edition has no ML number. Another difference is that the dj has a $4.95 price, whereas other ML, 1952 edition djs are marked $5.95. Neither the book or the dj appear to be knockoffs. The book has a good quality cover and good quality paper pages. Our best guess is that it is the first printing or early printing or a pre-publication printing of the 1952 edition. This book is in excellent condition. Very slight wear at cover corners and a book plate pasted onto the first fly-leaf page. Binding is tight, all pages are clear-unmarks, no tears, no foxing. Valentino's sudden death at the age of 31 set off a media frenzy and prompted much speculation surrounding both his life and death. 12mo quarter black cloth stamped in green on spine with off-white decorated paper boards; illustrated with black-and-white photographs; 218 pages. Small hole in cloth at front spine gutter, offset to p. 28 and pp.160-1 (from items previously laid in); otherwise near fine in very good to near fine dust jacket showing a few small chips and tears but still quite crisp and attractive. Scarce to rare in dust jacket.
