House Journal 14th Congress, 2nd Session. 1816. Primary feature of interest in all these Journals is the Presidential message at the front of each. In this one James Madison expresses his strong opposition to slavery; reflects on the War of 1812 and many other items of interest. Volume contains much information on the legislative effort directed at the aftermath of the War of 1812. Original marbled boards, leather spine. Front cover is off, back is barely hanging on. Boards show much wear and spine is deteriorating. Text block is sound. Quality of paper is better than usually seen with less foxing. Volume is complete; 566 pages plus 92 pages Index. Owner's signature on title page dated 1859. Has imprints of Tennessee State Historical Society and Tennessee State Library. Not much to look at but quite functional and complete.
