Winner of two Pulitzer Prizes, one of which was for "Admiral of the Ocean Sea: A Life of Christopher Columbus" (1942), which was followed by a briefer biography, "Christopher Columbus, Marine (1955). Researching for these two books, Morison found trustworthy translations of primary source materials were scant, and therefore made translations of his own or had new ones made.
