New York: Harper & Row, (1971) First edition, this copy inscribed & signed in ink at the ffep by author, illustrator & Caldecott winner Elizabeth Orton Jones. 8vo, viii, 271 pp. Publisher's dark gray paper over boards backed in lighter gray cloth lettered in yellow on the spine, in pictorial dust jacket.
Modest foxing mostly at endpapers, pastedowns, & edges of the text block, otherwise very good in very good, price-clipped dust jacket, lightly soiled, with brief edge wear including a couple of small losses.
Although Ms Gillespie here writes of childhood summers at the family compound in or near Westport Point, Massachusetts, she was a long-time resident of Exeter, New Hampshire Elizabeth Orton Jones, who was awarded the 1945 Caldecott Medal for "Prayer for a Child," lived in nearby Mason.
