Spine sunned, with dulled lettering; some silverfish stippling to cloth; earlier owner's name signed on front free endpaper; scattered, moderate foxing. Good condition. "I first heard of Chirupula when I was thirteen years old. Some Rhodesian old timers, drinking tea or sundowners on our screened verandah at Broken Hill, let drop his name, or, rather, that of his valley kingdom, Chiwefwe, a strange domain that lay north-east of us, deep in Lala country. Chiwefwe! A provocative name, whispered the way it was, and I cocked my ear whenever mention of it came up." .
