Contemporary sheep, blind fillets to boards, lettering piece and blind fillets to spine, blind tooling to board edges. A few minor nicks and smudges to boards, moderate rubbing to extremities, hinges cracked, early owner stamp and signature (A.H. Ware) to front free endpaper. Light toning to text, offsetting to margins of endleaves. $150. * First edition. A useful guide for Maine justices, this work went through five later editions, the last one in 1862. Kingsbury served in the Maine legislature and as judge of the Portland Municipal Court. OCLC locates 8 copies of the first edition in law libraries (Columbia, Georgetown, Harvard, Northern Kentucky University, Stanford, University of Maine, University of North Carolina, University of Virginia). Founded in 1983, The Lawbook Exchange, Ltd. is devoted to all aspects of law and its history. It has two main components. The Antiquarian Book Department offers a wide range of Continental, British, and American books, manuscripts, and ephemera from the medieval era through the twentieth century. The Publications Department offers reprints of over 1,000 landmark or otherwise interesting works, many with newly commissioned introductions, and several original publications. The Lawbook Exchange also offers appraisals and provides assistance with collection development. Originally a company that serviced law firms exclusively, it now serves thousands of lawyers,scholars, and institutions worldwide.
