Sobre este artículo
London: Printed for Frederick Wesley and A. H. Davis, 1826. [4], 287pp, [1]. With an engraved portrait frontispiece and numerous engraved illustrations in the text. Contemporary gilt-tooled half-calf, marbled boards, contrasting red Morocco lettering-piece. Extremities rubbed and dulled. Contemporary prize plate of the Blantyre Works, South Lanarkshire, to FEP, offsetting to title, scattered spotting. The second edition, printed in the year after the first, of a series of short instructional stories for children (many of which first published separately), by Congregational minister and missions activist in Africa John Campbell (1766-1840). Arguably the most intriguing of the included tales, particularly given Campbell's tireless devotion to the campaign to abolish slavery, is the 'Voyages and travels of a Bible', in which a copy of the good book 'a close prisoner for some months in a booksellerâs shop' is purchased and taken aboard ship to the West Indies, where, through a series of remarkable events, it comes into the possession of company of slaves 'lately imported from the coast of Guinea'. The overseer of the plantation, enraged that their engagement with the book has decreased their productivity, has the Bible transported to South America. . Second edition. 12mo.

Antiquates Ltd
Antiquates Ltd was established by Tom Lintern-Mole in 2007; we travel far and wide to buy, sell, and advise on rare books and manuscripts.
Concentrating on hand-press printing and early modern manuscripts, we pride ourselves on offering a varied selection of antiquarian works on a diverse range of subjects, leaning towards the interesting, the important, and the unusual.
We have a countryside bookshop in Wareham; we also regularly issue catalogues - do ask if you would like to be added to our mailing list - and frequently exhibit at regional and national book fairs in London, Bristol, Cambridge, Edinburgh, Oxford, and York.
We also offer a valuation service (for either insurance or probate purposes), as well as advice on library development.
