Pages are clean and intact, a small amount of soiling to outer edge of pages, slight age tanning to page edges. Light edgewear to laminate on cover. Colour & b/w illustrations. Corresponds to a sale held in the gallery in New York between March 16 and April 17, 1999. The title of this exhibition, In the Company of the Spirits, inspired by the various funerary objects that accompanied the soul in the afterlife has several additional levels of significance. The book showcases numerous works of art by Chinese and Japanese artists and begins with four essays: Howard Rogers - In Search of Enlightenment; James Cahill - The Emperor's Erotica (Ching Yuan Chai so-shih II) ; Anita Chung - The Life, Art and Travels of Xugu (1823-1896) ; and Arnold Chang - After the Age of Auction: Chinese Paintings in New York. ; 4to 11" - 13" tall; 319 pages; (*Due to heavy weight, extra postage will be required) [1437] .
