The author was a first generation Irish who writes of his family and his upbringing on a farmstead at the Arkansas River and South Hydraulic Street in Wichita Kansas where he was born in 1885. His father, Florence or Big Flurry, was from Ireland, married a girl from New York and moved to Wichita to become a farmer, a profession he was not good at. The author tells of family life, his upbringing, the problems of being Irish and Catholic in Kansas, and of a multitude of family problems both farming and marital.
