Sobre este artículo

Indianapolis: Bobbs-Merrill Company, 1917. Hardcover. Very Good. Photographs by Paul Shideler. Signed by Author(s). Inscribed by author on flyleaf. Boards in reddish-brown cloth with gilt lettering. Light wear to spine ends and corners; gilt on spine a bit dulled; some blemishing on the rear cover. Some minor smudging on a few pages, else interior is clean and unmarked. Frontispiece, plus more than thirty photographs. 137 pages. 8 x 5.25 inches. Poetry by William Miller Herschell (1873-1939) of Indiana, journalist and writer for the The Indianapolis News, where he worked from 1902 until his death. A few of the poems are written with vernacular accents, including local-provincial, childrens', Italian-American and African-American. The poetry is distinctly mid-western, patriotic, American, and paints a picture of the era. Photographs by Paul Shideler (1888-1962), The Indianapolis News's first staff photographer, hired in 1903. He remained with the newspaper for more than fifty years. He was also an artist and painter. His portrait of James Whitcomb Riley is held at the Indianapolis Museum of Art.
