Prolific Western fiction uses many psuedonym Lauran Bosworth Paine (1916 -) pens his real name to this story. Spurred by friendship, loyality and a sense of justice, a superb gunsmith George Mars fashions a Colt revoler that fires on it's half cock for a wounded friend. But the gun is stolen from shop. The craftsman's name is engraved on so is identifiable --- so as it passes from "hand to hand, his identity becomes as much a mystery as why possession of it skews the odds in any gun duel.
