London: Collins, 1921. First Edition. Hard Cover. Dust Jacket. Signed by Author. First UK Edition. Publisher's blue cloth with red lettering. A VG+ copy in a good only D/W priced 7/6 net to the spine (as called for). The D/W has a large chip 5.7 x 7.7 cm from the back panel affecting the Collins listing of novels from 1921. Inscribed by the Author on the FFEP: "Arthur Ingram Richardson/ with the author's compliments/ John Paris/ 1921". From the review in the Spectator (22/7/21): "The story of an Anglo-Japanese marriage. The main interest of the book lies in the vivid and terrible picture it presents of the underworld of heathen, semi-civilised Tokyo. In order to produce the notable effects which he achieves, however, the author condescends to employ an amount of lurid and unsavoury detail which inevitably detracts from the otherwise considerable merits of the book". Exceedingly uncommon in D/W.
