The first edition of this poetry anthology by Henry Morley, known to be one of the earliest professors of English literature in Great Britain. A selection of English verse from the early seventeenth century, during the time of Charles I and of the Commonwealth. Including poems by Lovelace, Suckling, Carew, Brome Marvell, Milton, and many others that illustrate the every-day life of the country character and town, and capture the spirit of the Commonwealth. Illustrated with a folding plate. Collated, complete. In a half morocco binding over cloth covered boards. Externally sound with some shelf wear and minor rubbing to the spine and boards, minor sunning to the upper margin of the rear board. Gift inscription by a previous owner to the front free endpaper, dated 1873. Internally, firmly bound. With a minor faint spotting scattered throughout. Illustrated with a folding plate. Collated, complete. Very Good

Based in the literary city of Bath, our offices are housed in the Eastern Dispensary. Built in 1845, the building originally existed as a charitable institution providing medical care. The building now houses our collection of over twenty thousand books and has five full time members of staff.
