London & New York, John Lane, printed by Edmund Evans, (1895).. Re-issue (1895), 4to, 275 x 230 mm, 10½ x 9¼ inches, white card covers with black, white and red illustration to upper cover, blue and white illustrated endpapers, 8 wonderful colour plates, text inset in small rectangles. 80 mm (3") split at tail of spine, small private library label to top corner of upper cover. A very good clean bright copy. First published by Routledge in 1870 in a smaller format. The covers and endpapers were specially designed by Crane for this new edition. A succession of months disguised as guests arrive with seasonal gifts: January with sneezes and cold, February brings Valentine's Day, March the March Hare etc. December arrives at last, very old, riding a goat, dressed in a red coat trimmed with ermine and carrying a Christmas Tree.
