Macmillan, London, 1906, 1906. Hardcover. Good/No Dj. F. H. Townsend. Octavo, hardcover, cover bright and well preserved with nice pictorial paste-on of old auto, woman and driver with bird on hedge. Top edge gilt, Spine edge of endpaper soiled, foxed title page, else the rest of book is VG. 80 deckled pages with 10 tri-color lithograph illustrations. A short story that was first published in Scribner's Magazine and included in "Traffic and Discoveries" in 1904. This, the first American edition published as a separate book, has been illustrated by F.H. Townsend, the Art Editor of Punch Magazine. The story concerns a motorist, driving across Sussex in the summer time, who loses his way and arrives at a stately old house, with a garden beautiful with lawns, ancient yew trees, and a fountain.
