The word "kirk" is a Saxon term, and "manse" is an abbreviation of mansion, both are household terms in Scotland. The twenty-five tinted plates are bright and clean as is the text. Most specimens of ecclesiastical architecture in Scotland are Norman or Romanesque. Armorial bookplate of William Livingstone Jr., front pastedown cover. Front cover decorated in blind and gilt, spine lettered in floral and varying gilt motifs. Binding is solid, spine sunned.
