Dedication page to John, Lord Archbishop of Canterbury, & President. Dedication to The Honourable the Trustees of the Colony of Georgia. Decorative head pieces and initials, historiated end pieces.

Thomas Wilson (1663-1755) was Bishop of Sodor and Man from 1697-1755. He was recognized for his work to improve moral and religious conduct of his people. During a visit of London in 1735 he met James Edward Oglethorpe, British soldier, Member of Parliament and founder of the Colony of Georgia. It was the beginning of Wilson's interest in foreign missions. "The Knowledge and Practice of Christianity...", written in 1740, was published in numerous editions. In 1745 he became a member of the Georgia Trustees himself.

Some foxing of pages at front and end and sporadic throughout block. Page xxxvi with tears mended by transparent tape. Binding in overall very good, interior in good+ to very good condition.
