Sarawak only became a colony of the British Government in the immediate aftermath of World War II, when the last Brooke rajah ceded power, Abell was the third British Governor of the colony following the assassination of his predecessor. This book through archive photographs and local newspaper cuttings tell how Abell restored calm, oversaw the development the Brookes had neglected and worked with nascent politicians to plot the colony's future. The Penang Bookshelf was set up in mid 2010 principally to introduce Malaysian residents to the variety of books there is available about the country both past and present. We only stock fiction and non-fiction related to Malaysia and the rest of Asia. Much of our current stock of over a thousand different titles is not available in Malaysia. Conversely much of our stock published in Malaysia is difficult to find outside the country. So if there\'s something Malaysia related that you\'re looking for, do please contact us and we\'ll do our best to help.
