Sobre este artículo

Amstelaedami [Amsterdam]: Henricum Wetstenium , 1692 . Vellum. Very Good. 8.5" by 5.5". Not Stated. An illustrated and scarce edition of this classic work examining the history of Rome, noted for its unfettered celebration of the Roman people. A smart vellum-bound copy of the scarce 1696 illustrated Amsterdam edition of Florus's 'Epitome of Roman History', in the original Latin.Illustrated an engraved title page, thirty further illustrated plates of Roman coins, and one folding plate. Collated, complete.Mainly based on the work of Livy, Florus' work details many historical events in a favourable tone for Roman citizens, and is written in a bombastic style, dividing the life of Rome into periods of infancy, youth and manhood.Edited by 'Jo. Georgii Graevii'.With an illustrated school library bookplate to the front pastedown, and with the bookplate of St. Edward's School Sixth Form Library to the front free endpaper. No further library markings. A smart copy of a scarce edition of a work that was vastly popular during the late Antiquity and the Middle Ages, even used as a standard school text book until the nineteenth century. In a full vellum binding, with spine label to back strip. Light discolouration to binding, most concentrated to lower portion of back strip. Horizontal closed tear to back strip. School library bookplate to front pastedown and front free endpaper. Internally, tightly bound. Pages a touch age toned but generally clean and bright, with only the odd spot. Very Good
