New York: Viking Press, 1940. First Edition. Hardcover. Near Fine/Very Good. Second issue with cancels on pages 165 and 256. Near Fine in a Very Good jacket, unclipped ($2.50), generally toned, chipped at the top edge, a few tape repairs on the verso. Yellow cloth, toned at the far edges, with green ink lettering and designs on the spine and front board. Firmly bound with a slight forward lean, green top stain, clean internally. The first U.S. edition of Greene's novel The Power and the Glory, about a flawed priest traveling around Tabasco, Mexico ministering to the people in spite of its prohibition. Named by TIME to be one of the best 100 English-language novels written since 1923.
