Paris: Charpentier et Fasquelle, 1901. First edition. Attractive deep red half leather contemporary binding, with red marbled boards. Gilt titles and decoration to the spine. The binding is in very good condition, with just a touch of rubbing. Internally a clean and tidy copy with just a little darkening to the page edges. Original paper covers are bound in. The work contains 138 reproductions of portraits and prints. L'Aiglon was Napoleon II or Napoleon François Charles Joseph (1811-1832), king of Rome, emperor of the French, prince of Parma, duke of Reichstadt. Although short lived, In 1900, the writer Edmond Rostand paid tribute to him by making him the main character in a play called L'Aiglon. Hence the title of this work the following year. 406 pages. 20cm x 14cm. . Première édition. Jolie reliure contemporaine en demi-cuir rouge foncé, avec des plats marbrés rouges. Titres et décorations dorés au dos. La reliure est en très bon état, avec juste un peu de frottement. L'intérieur de l'ouvrage est propre et bien rangé, les bords des pages étant légèrement assombris. Les couvertures originales en papier sont reliées. L'ouvrage contient 138 reproductions de portraits et de gravures. L'Aiglon était Napoléon II ou Napoléon François Charles Joseph (1811-1832), roi de Rome, empereur des Français, prince de Parme, duc de Reichstadt. Bien que de courte durée, l'écrivain Edmond Rostand lui rendit hommage en 1900 en en faisant le personnage principal d'une pièce de théâtre intitulée L'Aiglon. D'où le titre de cet ouvrage l'année suivante. 406 pages. 20cm x 14cm.
