London; W. Foulsham and Co. Ltd., [1925]., 1925. Hard Cover. Octavo, pp. 190, [2]. Second British Edition. Although not explicitly stated in the text, this is the abridged 1925 edition following on from the 1911 first. With a final leaf of publishers' advertisements. Original indigo publishers' cloth with gilt titles to upper board and spine. With original publishers' pictorial dust-jacket. Spine tips and corners slightly bumped and faded with overall vibrant cloth and bright gilt lettering. Some light scattered foxing to fore-edges, minor toning to endpapers. Pages are tight and free of any ownership marks or annotations. Dust-jacket is bright and unclipped with some rubbing at edges with some small tears and minor at extremities. Supernatural chiller loosley based on the County Durham legend of the Lambton Worm. Stoker's final novel includes mongooses, mesmerism, and prehistoric monsters, specifically monstrous White Worm of ancient Mercia, secreted for thousands of years in a bottomless well and able to metamorphose into a women. In the original strikingly illustrated dust-jacket depicting Byronic villain Edgar Caswell. Bram Stoker, a bibliography of First Editions by Richard Dalby, pp. 64-65
