The Lamplighter (Orphan Girl's Struggles & Triumphs) by Miss (Maria Susanna) Cummins.
Hardback, year unstated but early edition, appears to be circa 1860s, colour frontispiece, published by William Nicholson and Sons, London, 348 pages.
Octavo/8vo. Measures around 6 3/4" by 4 1/2" by 7/8". Attractive half leather binding and coarse cloth boards. Raised bands with gilt lettering and detail to spine. Some scuffing and signs of rubbing and shelf-wear. Corners bumped and a little torn. Binding reasonably firm though strained in the odd place and part of the textblock from pages 241-258 is a little uneven. Crack to upper part of outer front hinge. Front and rear inner hinges are cracked, with rear endpapers loose. Page edges browned. Page surfaces are quite clean, odd marks here and there but no underlining, marginalia, etc. See pictures for further information.
