Gilt spines. 235 total illustrations + large fold out map in rear pocket. . Contains summer and winter journeys through Sweden, Norway, Lapland and Northern Finland with descriptions of the inner life of the people, their manners and customs, the primitive antiquities etc. A VERY NICE FIRST EDITION COPY OF THIS CORNERSTONE WORK BY ONE OF THE PREMIER EXPLORERS OF THE 19TH CENTURY. Bound in publishers original sea-blue cloth elaborately decorated with pictorial overall designs in gilt and red on the upper covers and spines of the sun and of birds in flight. Light signature on front endpaper dated 1881. The large colored, folding map of Norway and Sweden in the pocket at the rear of vol one is clean. Minor shelf-wear, corners bumped and hinges beginning to show signs of cracking. Otherwise nice clean copy.. First Edition. Decorative Cloth. Very Good+/No Jacket Issued. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
