Neill. 287pp. Quarto [24 cm] Brown cloth covered boards with a black ink stamped title and vignette on the spine, and an illustrated paper label on the front cover. Illustrations in black and white. Front hinge going; multiple small stains to the fore-edge of the text block (not affecting the pages); small tape stains to the endpapers and flyleaves. In a dust jacket, with small losses from the spine ends, along with a number of small closed tears and chips to the edges and folds. The tears have been backed with roughly a dozen pieces of tape. 1900 was the year that the book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz was published and gained instant success. This is the sequel.
Sinopsis
Book 2 of L. Frank Baum's immortal OZ series. Originally published 1904 by Reilly & Britton in Chicago, the title of the popular children’s novel by L. Frank Baum, The Marvelous Land of Oz, was shortened to The Land of Oz within the year. In The Land of Oz, an orphan boy named Tip lives under the guardianship of a wicked witch named Mombi. He intends to scare her with a pumpkin-headed wooden man he made when she returns home, but alas, she is not frightened and instead brings the wooden man Tip created to life with her newly bought Powder of Life. Later that night, Tip and the pumpkin-headed man named Jack Pumpkinhead escape with the Powder of Life, joined by a sawhorse Tip brought to life. They then proceed to partake in adventures throughout Oz, and Tip discovers the secret of his past.
