Each book is the 1944 fourth printing of the first edition and has the same previous owner's name neatly written on the front free endpaper indicating that they came from a single source and are contemporary with each other; scarce as such. Minor wear only. Loosely inserted is a copy of a three-page, typewritten document giving some insight into the author's life and times, anonymous but written in a familiar style indicating that the writer probably new Flora Thompson. Also loosely inserted is a newspaper article about the author. Each book is protected by a clear, removable cover of archival quality. (Bibliographic note: these three books were subsequently published as a single volume in 1945 by Oxford University Press entitled "Lark Rise to Candleford" with wood engravings by Julie Neild). He alternated dictating St. Ives and The Weir of Hermiston but gradually lost interest in the former. The plot concerns the adventures of the dashing Capitaine Jacques St. Ives, a Napoleonic soldier, after his capture by the British.
