Brown and cream marbled endpapers. Rebound from the original paper covered edition, with the original covers bound in; original spine bound in at rear. Deckle fore and bottom edges. 290 black and white illustrations and 16 plates. High-quality glossy paper. Front hinge cracked at endpapers, but still strong. Corners bumped and rubbed, with minor fraying at tips. Covers have some chips in marbling. Approximately 40 pages have a small notation in the margin, or a word lightly underlined or circled in the text. A few pages have some smudges. 480 pages. "Deuxieme edition, revue et completee". No dust jacket, as issued. Carefully packed, shipped in a box.
