Sobre este artículo

Westport, CT: Greenwood Press, 1997. First Edition. First Printing.. Hardcover. Fine/No Dust Jacket, As Issued.. Westport, CT: Greenwood Press, 1997. Hardcover. Fine/None, As Issued. First Edition/First Printing. 140 pages. Landmark collection of essays on subject. The single best introduction to the cinematic art and achievement of Theo Angelopoulos. The First Hardcover Edition. Precedes and should not be confused with all other subsequent editions, particularly the Softcover Edition. Published in a small and limited one-time-only print run as a hardcover original only and as Volume 66 of the "Contributions to the Study of Popular Culture" Series. The First Edition is now rare. Presents "The Last Modernist: The Films of Theo Angelopoulos". One of the most distinctive contemporary film director, a highly idiosyncratic film stylist, and indisputably a great filmmaker. "His work, from the early 1970's to 'The Beekeeper', 'Landscape In The Mist', 'The Suspended Step of The Stalk', and the Cannes prize-winner, 'Ulysses' Gaze', demonstrates a unique sensibility and a preoccupation with form (notably, the long take, space, and time) and with content, particularly Greek politics and history, and notions of the journey, border-crossing, and exile. Surveys his entire cinematic output and presents a discussion of his major films, themes, and concerns. The contributors argue that Angelopoulos' sustained oeuvre has kept alive the tradition of postwar Modernism, that is, the cinema of Antonioni, Jancso, and Ozu, in the largely hostile environment of the 1980's, 1990's, and 2000's" (Publisher's blurb). The contributors are a very diverse lot: The Chicago Tribune film critic Michael Wilmington weighs in with as much insight and gravitas as the philosopher Fredric Jameson, who contributes what is probably the single most dense appreciation of Angelopoulos' sublime films. Theo Angelopoulos died on January 24, 2012, his reputation as the greatest Greek film artist of our time secure. An absolute "must-have" title for Theo Angelopoulos collectors. This title is a great collection. This is one of few copies of the First Hardcover Edition/First Printing still available online and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright. Please note: Precedes and should NOT be confused with the Softcover Edition. Copies available online have serious flaws, are subsequent printings, or are remainder-marked. This is surely an accessible and lovely alternative. A rare copy thus. Lavishly illustrated with film-still plates. One of the greatest film artists of our time. A fine copy. . ISBN 0313305641.
