Cassell and Company London 1893 G (no dj, green/gilt pictorial cloth decorated in orange/green/black/pale blue, gilt title panel on spine and gilt boy holding long-barrelled gun, gilt title on very attractive front board with gilt illustration of Indian with rifle and two other men, with surrounding foliage in orange, pale blue and green, lightly rubbed top and base of spine, top corners rubbed and bottom corners bumped, both front and back hinges cracked and reinforced with tape, decorated endpapers, pencil shorthand annotation reverse of title page, light foxing to prelims and back endpaper and a couple of margins, one or two grubby marks in margins, one plate becoming loose) 12mo 376pp plus 14pp publisher's adverts. Sixth thousand. Deerfoot Series. B/w frontispiece with tissue guard (same illustration as front board) and 3 b/w plates by A.R.W.

Philadelphia: The John C. Winston Co, 1905. Hardcover. Good. Later printing. Illustrated in black and white. Decorated gray cloth covered boards stamped in black and red with gilt on the spine. Good only with a neatly repaired gutter though the endpapers are torn at the hinge, missing the preliminaries but the frontispiece is present, page five with loss at the top margin but not affecting the text, bumping to the spine ends and corners, and rubbing and soiling to the spine and boards. The printed date is, "copyright 1887 by Porter & Coates." This publisher was acquired by John C. Winston Co. in 1905, hence our date.
