Unrecorded auction catalogue held by Washington D.C. auctioneers Latimer & Cleary for Emmanuel Henri Victurnien, Marquis de Noailles (1830-1909), a French diplomat, historian, and literary critic. Victurnien was envoy to the United States in 1872, and then an ambassador to Italy, the Ottoman Empire and to Germany. He authored several works on Poland's history and poetry.

The Marquis' possessions were announced to be auctioned in over 180 lots plus a separate offering on the second day of the sale of fine brandies and wines, horses, a landau carriage, and related équippage. The offered lots were were lavish and included various tables; velvet, Moquet, Brussells, ingrain, and "Three ply" carpets; French walnut furniture including a "Boúfet," dining table, and "Dining chairs Upholstered in Russia Leather, (green)"; rugs; a "Mantel Set" with French clock, candelabras and a "Gilt Fire Set to match"; lace curtains; "Service of French Glass Ware for 24 persons"; parlor suites of furniture; a rosewood grand piano by Erard; bronze sculptures; ottomans, mirrors; bookshelves; and library tables and a writing desk. Some more mundane household goods were also included such as mattresses and a boxspring, but the lots were mostly decorative and furniture items.

The lots were displayed throughout the Marquis' Washington residence including such rooms as the basement, kitchen, pantry, chancery, dining room, back porch, parlour, library, servants' chamber ("3d Story"), and other miscellaneous chambers and halls.
