Sobre este artículo
[New York: 1972]. Poster, 22" x 17". Offset lithograph, printed in black on white poster stock. Signed in block "W.F. 72", lower right; printers bug upper right. Slight toning evident on lighter portions; light creasing and one pin-hole at extremities; Very Good (B/B+). Not backed.
Announcement for a live music performance at the Hotel Diplomat on West 43rd Street in New York City in April, 1972. The YWLL, formed in 1970, was the official youth branch of the CPUSA, a successor to the W.E.B. DuBois Clubs of America; during this period the group was very active in community organizing and anti-racist initiatives around New York. We can find no definitive information regarding "The Lords," the band announced here, but from context it was almost certainly not the German garage-rock act of the same name, which had disbanded by late 1971. We're guessing it was, rather, a salsa group comprised of (or at least supported by) members of the Puerto Rican revolutionary group The Young Lords Party. The Diplomat was a transient hotel but was well-known as an "alternative" concert venue in the late 1960s and early 1970s; it was demolished in 1994.
