1. Notarial Manual [unpublished manuscript] (France, ca. 1750) in a contemporary binding;
2. Formularium [...] instrumentorum (Milan, 1605) with impressive exlibris in manuscript dated 1613;
3. Formularium [...] instrumentorum (Milan, 1631) another edition by a different publisher;
4. Compilatio [...] ad Tabellionum (Brescia, 1621) in a contemporary binding;
5. Stylus capibreviandi (Barcelona, 1594), with a significant portion in Catalan;
6. In Notariorum excessus, errores [etc.] (Venice, 1550)

NONE OF THESE are in the Robbins Collection at UC Berkeley or Yale Law Library.

CONTENTS OF THE COLLECTION:

1. Pratique de Notaire Manuscript on Paper (France, ca. 1750). 168 numbered pages + 2 unnumbered pages. Contemporary French mottled calf. In very good condition, suitable for exhibition and study. This text is apparently unpublished. The manuscript is quite legible and the pages are primarily without blemish. The text includes detailed
chapters on the work of the notary, how to become a notary, how to create legal documents regarding marriage, the exchange of property (buying and selling homes etc.), wills and beneficiaries, legal obligations, termination of debt, and much more. These chapters are carefully delineated in a Table.

2. Giovanni Battista Cavallini [a.k.a. Joannes Baptista Caballinus]. Formularium, et Solennitates instrumentorum (Milan: Bordon, 1605) with impressive exlibris in manuscript dated 1613, and interesting annotations at end dated 1624. Modern binding, pp. 63-64 torn with loss.

3. Giovanni Battista Cavallini [a.k.a. Joannes Baptista Caballinus]. Formularium et Solennitates instrumentorum (Milan: Picaia, 1631). 19th-century drab boards, spine perished. Laid in are 4-pages of notes in Latin (written by an Italian scholar).

4. Io. Baptista de Madiis, Nortarii. Compilatio Plurimorum ad Tabellionum (Brescia: Apud Thomam Bozolam, 1621) in a contemporary limp vellum binding. Some staining.

5. Francisco Solsana, Stylus Capibreviandi (Barcalona: Sebastiani a Cormellas, 1594). With significant portions in Catalan. Bound in 18th-century Spanish mottled calf, red edges.

6. In Notariorum excessus, errores [etc.] (Venice: Apud Bartholomaeum Caesanum, 1550). Titlepage defective (mounted, with significant loss). Contemporary limp vellum binding (front blank and fol. B1 loose).

He is the principal Rare Book and Document appraiser at Winston Art Group (New York) and Gurr Johns (New York). From 2002 until 2013 he taught advanced graduate level courses in Rare Books and Special Collections (Palmer School of Library and Information Science at Long Island University, and the School of Information at The University of Texas at Austin School of Information).
