London: Bell and Daldy, 1862. viii, 164, [4], 31pp, [1]. With a half-title and a terminal publisher's advertisement catalogue. Unopened in original publisher's green cloth, stamped in gilt and blind. A trifle rubbed. Presentation copy, inked inscription to verso of FFEP: 'To the Right Honble. / Sir Edward G. E. Lytton Bulwer-Lytton / Baronet M.P. / from / F. A. MacKay / Montpelier / Edinburgh 31st May 1862'. The first edition of the third published work of Francis Alexander Mackay, and the first not to appear under his pseudonym Francis Fitzhugh, a collection of poems predominantly inspired by the history and landscape of Italy, including 'Hurra! for Garibaldi! - A War Chant' a celebration of the revolutionary's achievements during the Second Italian War of Independence that ultimately led to the unification of Italy in the year prior to the publication of this volume. This copy is inscribed by the author to fellow poet Edward Robert Bulwer-Lytton (1803-1873). . First edition. 8vo.
