SIXTH EDITION, TITLE DATED 1872 BUT PUBLISHED IN1873, PIRATE EDITION, THE FIRST TO BE PUBLISHED IN ENGLAND, no publisher, (London, John Camden Hotten, 1873), verso title page dated 1871. 8vo, approximately 200 x 115 mm, 8 x 4½ inches, pages: vi, [7]-384; iv, [5]-120; [3], 4--14, title pages to each part, original publisher's pebbled cloth, gilt lettering and decoration to spine, black rules to covers, original endpapers. Slight wear to head and tail of spine and corners, slight rubbing to hinges, pale age-browning to Leaves of Grass title page and the final page of After All, neat old ink note at top of title page, top edge slightly dusty, occasional pale fox spot, very slight lean to binding, otherwise a very good copy. This first British edition was an anonymously issued English piracy claiming to be an American edition, due to censorship laws. See: Joel Myerson, Walt Whitman, pages 75-78, A2.6.
