SIGNED by the author to top of front free endpaper, and rare thus. Interesting presentation copy. From the collection of the civil servant, John Kilfeather, and bearing his neat name and date above McGahern's own signature. Kilfeather's home became a shambling, bohemian meeting point for the poet John Hewitt and his socialist literary circle (his daughter, Siobhán Kilfeather, was an eminent academic, editor, and expert on 18th-century Ireland whose own work helped transform the study of the history of sexuality in Ireland. She was also a friend of McGahern's.
