Bruxelles: Chez Eugene Henry Fricx, 1700. Book. Very Good. Hardcover. Dernier Edition. 18mo (105 x 160mm). 638pp+[26]. Full calf leather, five raised bands and gilt ornaments to the spine. Short ink name on top front pastedown. Binding cracked on bottom parts, corners chipped and rubbed, edgeworn, faded panels. Single trace due to bookworm in the lower right corner of the book. Slightly soiling interior. Rare early edition. This Old Testament book of the Bible is one of the best known and most frequently used in literature and other fields of art. The word "kohelet" (from Greek Ekklesiastes) is not the name of the author of the text. That is what the wise men speaking at meetings were called. For many years, the book was attributed to Solomon, but literary and historical studies showed that it was written in the third century BC. (Salomon probably died around 931 BC)..
