Along the way, they encounter Carnauba, a woman turned into a palm tree by the Moon. She instructs the young boy in how to obtain food, drink, shelter, medicine and clothing from the palm and asks him to plant palm nuts in return for her help. Years later, when a plantation grows on what once was desert, the boy carries the nuts of the Tree of Providence to other native Brazilians. A few minor soft wrinkles at top of three pages, three small areas of surface paper loss on boards - at top and botton corner of front board and a little larger on the rear board near hinge, very small tear at top of front hinge, light soiling to boards, scattered light wrinkling and bubbling of paper on boards.. Mounted-on colored paper card onto slipcase, that reads "Christmas Greetings from Brazil". Scuffing, rubbing and tears to slipcase, with some parts missing. Tears to glassine jacket, which is separated into three pieces, but almost complete. Very minor rubbing, scuffing and staining to boards. Slip attached to title page: "Please accept with the best wishes and season's Greetings of the Publishers this special numbered Presentation copy of THE LEGEND OF THE PALM TREE."
