Author Helen Markley Miller’s engaging history of adventurer William Henry Jackson, who as a restless photographer at age 23 left the Eastern United States for Missouri, where he hired on as teamster for a wagon train heading to Montana and soon became the most celebrated photographer of the American West. Illustrated with over 50 fascinating Jackson photographs of the natural wonders and people of the frontier from Utah to California, including many striking portraits of Indian people, plus a number of Jackson’s hand drawn sketches.
