Sobre este artículo

New York: Peter Hill, 94 Broadway, 1833. Hardcover. Good. First American edition. 12mo. vi, [7-9] 10-218, [12]pp., 10 lithographic plates. Early American bookplate on the front pastedown: "Florida Peale. No. 196 Locust street, above 12th, Philadelphia" and contemporary signature in ink on the front free endpaper: "Lewis Peale". Two later ownership names in ink on the front free endpaper. Contemporary quarter leather and marbled paper over boards. The spine-back is partially worn away, joints are split, the upper right corner of the front board is clipped, good. One of two influential books by the educational reformer Elizabeth Mayo. She joined her brother Charles at Epsom in 1822, and then at Cheam, where they instructed boys according to the principles of Pestalozzi. Contains ten fine lithographic plates of shells "drawn from nature." A notable copy from the library of Mary Florida Peale and Lewis Bonaventure Peale, both members of the Charles Wilson Peale family of Philadelphia.
