"A Letter from Mr. William Sharp, Surgeon to St. Bartholomew's Hospital, to James Parsons, M. D. F. R. S. containing an Account of a new-invented Instrument for fractured Legs" describes a device consisting of "two splints of strong pasteboard, made with glew, to be fastened upon a fractured leg, by three straps which surround the whole", which, according to the author, "...appears to me preferable to any I have hitherto known...". The letter, on the first three pages of the item, is followed by a detailed description of the device and how it can be used.
The item is a First Edition, extracted and disbound from The Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society, Vol. 57, Part I For the Year 1767, pages 80-87, with one large extended plate. This volume of the transactions was published in London in 1768. The disbound item is approximately 6 1/4 x 8 1/2 inches and in good/very good condition.
