(in fours) viii, 264; viii, 266pp., 3 maps (of which 1 folding), 177 plates (with over 300 drawings), original dark brownish grey cloth, sides decoratively blind blocked, spines gilt lettered, very neatly recased with the original endpapers reused (with a contemporary Belfast bookseller's ticket), plates foxed throughout and some foxing to the text (mainly marginal or to leaves adjacent to the plates), else a very good copy.
Each volume inscribed on the title page "Andrew Cowan/ 1846".
First published in London in 1841.
