Buffalo, 1843. 356pp. plus frontispiece and folding map. 12mo. Original half calf and paper boards. Boards chipped and worn, particularly at corners. Map trimmed to fit text block, affecting left edge of image. Later pencil ownership inscription on front flyleaf. Light foxing. Good. An interesting and vivid account of the author's imprisonment on Van Dieman's Island as a result of charges brought against him during the insurrection in Upper Canada. Written in the form of letters, this is a minutely detailed description of life in the prison colony, the events leading to Wait's incarceration, and his efforts to lobby for his release.
