Enclosed is a typed letter, from the editor Diana Crook (on her letterhead and signed by her) to Mr. James S. Fulleylove whom she believed might be a descendent of the renowned British author Alice Dudeney and hence might be interested in purchasing the book. Likely she was correct as Mr. Fulleylove did purchase the book, his name penned and dated 1998 on the front free endpaper. Page 118 is noted on rear endpaper. A clean, otherwise unmarked copy. Pages crisp and fine, firmly bound in a black hardcover, title gilt-stamped on spine. Cover is fresh and unworn. Pictorial jacket lightly edge rubbed, no tears or chips. The letter has wear along right edge, and folding creases. The diary reveals not only the life of Alice Dudeney in the Sussex town of Lewis, but much about the lives of her neighbors - so much that the diaries were banned from publication for forty years. 5-3/4 x 8-1/2". x + 254 pages plus 4 pages of black & white photos.
