Whether it should have done so is among other things a military question, and as such it is not argued here. The war itself is seldom explicit in the discussion, which is more concerned with the kind of liberal education that must someday be restored, and which assumes that this can be better than the kind now suspended. The need at the moment is for a definition of liberal education whenever and however it manages to exist. I take its necessity for granted, and believe that at any time, but particularly after the war, it should be as good as possible." #01714.
