Other authors include John Greenleaf Whittier, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, Harriet Beecher Stowe, William Makepeace Thackeray, Bayard Taylor, Alfred Tennyson, Alexander Pope, Sir Walter Raleigh, Christina Rossetti, Sir Walter Scott, William Shakespeare, James Russell Lowell, Thomas Moore, John Milton, Charles & Mary Lamb, John Keats, Samuel Johnson, Oliver Goldsmith, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Charles Dickens, James Fenimore Cooper, Geoffrey Chaucer, Elizabeth Barrett Browning, Robert Browning, Robert Burns, John Quincy Adams...and many more. There is an Index of Authors at the front, and an Index of First Lines at the back. The poems are grouped into the following categories: Poems of...Childhood; The Affection; Sorrow and Adversity; Religion; Nature; Peace and War; Temperance and Labor; Patriotism and Freedom; The Sea; Adventure and Rural Sports; Descriptive Poems; Sentiment and Reflection; Fancy; Tragedy; Personal Poems; Humorous Poems.
Condition:
Clean covers and spine; cloth tears at the corner tips, and at the top and bottom edges of the spine. Tight binding with no loose pages. There is a crack at the rear hinge between pages 788 & 789 resulting in the back cover being shaky. There is scuffing/shelf wear to the gilt top stain along the bottom edge of the text block. The pages are lightly age-toned, but mostly clean with only an occasional light stain or foxing spot here and there (though heavier foxing to the front end papers, the frontispiece, and the tissue guard over the frontispiece. There are small tears along the outer edge of page xv. Overall the book is in Good condition.
